Legal Framework

The Legal Case for H&S Training

⚖️
Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

Section 2 places a duty on employers to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of all employees. Providing adequate training is a core element of this duty.

📋
Management of H&S at Work Regs 1999

Regulation 13 specifically requires employers to provide health and safety training to all employees — on recruitment, when exposed to new risks, and when responsibilities change.

💰
Business Cost of Non-Compliance

HSE prosecutions can result in unlimited fines and imprisonment. The average cost of a workplace injury or work-related ill health case in the UK is estimated at £16,000–£36,500.

📈
Career & Commercial Advantage

NEBOSH and IOSH qualifications are globally recognised and required for safety management roles. They demonstrate competence to employers, clients and procurement teams.

FAQs

Health & Safety Training FAQs

What is the difference between NEBOSH and IOSH?
IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) offers practical workplace safety qualifications, most notably IOSH Managing Safely, targeted at managers and supervisors. NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) offers more in-depth examination-based qualifications at higher academic levels, targeted at dedicated health & safety professionals. Both are internationally recognised.
Is the NEBOSH General Certificate hard to pass?
The NEBOSH NGC requires genuine study commitment — typically 130+ guided learning hours. Our platform provides structured video lessons, interactive quizzes, mock exams, and tutor support. Our first-attempt pass rate is 94%, significantly above the national average of around 78%.
Can I study NEBOSH entirely online?
Yes. The NEBOSH NGC Open Book Examination (OBE) format, introduced in 2020, is taken online at home. Our platform provides all study materials, mock OBEs, and tutor feedback entirely online. The practical assessment (NG2) involves a workplace risk assessment which can be completed in your own workplace.
Do NEBOSH qualifications expire?
NEBOSH qualifications themselves do not expire — once qualified, you hold the qualification permanently. However, employers and professional bodies expect continued professional development (CPD) to maintain competency. Some role-specific requirements (e.g. gas safety) may have annual or 3-year renewal cycles for component elements.
